First of all, hello June! Goodbye, May!
Frankly I don't have any idea on what to blog about today, I just love to hear the tick-tack-ing sounds of my keyboard. It's nice to type on a real computer for a change (well, pardon the wordplay, I just thought laptops aren't "real" computers...whatever it is I'm rambling about).
In retros, now that Kaamatan's over I guess the buzz about who's gonna be the next UN will die down..well, eventually. The winners have been announced and I guess, that's the way it is. Now, don't get me wrong cos I won't be judging the judges' decision, it's just that something caught my eye and tickled my brain cells.
Now with the era of social networks, everything...well, you know how it works...every information comes within minutes and accessible to everyone. I can view someone else's pictures even though I'm not in their buddy list. Okayyyyyy, TMI....back to the topic...So, I was happily browsing along the uploaded pictures of this year's Unduk Ngadau finalists and of course, comments were peppered everywhere within that album. I can't help but feel a tinge of mixed reaction with many comments that seemed to belittle the heavily endowed beauty queens.
"Wah, begini berisi pun bulih jadi wakil?" -->an example of the comments I read.
People like these do not target only those who are fat, but also picked on some "deformities" of some contestants like their smile;
macam kuda la...macam (insert animal or dogo-ish names here)...etc.
Okay, I'm human not a saint. So, I'm also guilty of posting those types of comments as well or at least, I was thinking it while looking at it..but then again...
I take my hats off for these contestants for being courageous, for being a bigger person (pun unintended) than us mere mortals with myriads deformities and enormous egos. I mean, ladies, you are my heroes...I can't even take a banter (well, I could on PMS free days) from strangers. Being able to stand there, strut your stuff and expose a vulnerable side of yourself take a lot of courage.
So, I guess it's not a cliche to say that all the contestants are winners...they are. Pageants are not so bad after all
if one looks at the real intention of beauty pageantry...
